What We Do

Every Child Deserves to Be Heard

Every child has a story and every story deserves to be heard.

TLC was founded to ensure every child has someone to advocate for them.
Someone to fight for their best interests when they can’t do it themselves.

For 25 years, our mission has been simple: to make safety, stability and healing the standard, not the exception.

Our new Guardian ad Litem program serves children and families
in high-conflict custody, domestic violence, and guardianship cases, helping prevent kids from ever entering foster care at all.

Our Executive Director, Kalan Chapman Lloyd, shared her family’s story at the MIC’D Gala. One that embodies the power of advocacy.

A story of a little boy found wandering alone. He was barefoot, scared, and unable to speak. A Guardian ad Litem was appointed to be his voice. Because of her advocacy, he not only found safety and stability but a family and a bright future. That little boy is Kalan’s son.

His story reminds us why TLC exists. To make sure every child has someone standing beside them when they need it most.

Why a GAL Matters

When Families Need a Guardian ad Litem

Many families turn to the court because communication has broken down.
In those moments, a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) steps in to help bring focus back to the child.
Our role isn’t to take sides between adults. It is to speak for the child and help the adults refocus on what matters most: safety, stability, and the child’s well-being.

At TLC, we believe that sometimes what families need most is simply someone who can listen, de-escalate conflict, and give the child a voice when the grown-ups can’t find common ground.
